Sting Capital invests 2 MSEK in FileRide

We are thrilled to report that FileRide has been nominated for the SIME Awards ‘09 held in Stockholm on November 12. So far, the SIME jury has selected the first 12 out of “The Mighty 36: Rising Stars of the North” nominees and we’re humbled to be selected in the first round along with such great companies!

As of today, FileRide is no longer in closed beta. That means anyone can download the FileRide client for Mac OS X Leopard and Windows Xp/Vista from our website. We’re excited to go live, and if you haven’t experienced FileRide yet, make sure you download it right away! FileRide is a free ride! Join it!

It’s been a long time, but we can assure you we haven’t been resting!

We’ve finally released the eagerly awaited Mac OS X version of FileRide and it’s pretty sweet. Get your copy from http://www.fileride.com/. Haven’t got an invitation code? Well, we’re celebrating right now, so just use the code ‘cristal’ and you’re good to go!

FileRide Mac is tested to run on Leopard and has the same rich feature set as the Windows version except for the integrated YouTube and LastFM players which will be added shortly.

We’re now finalizing and testing the iPhone and Web versions and will update you as soon as they become available!

FileRide goes “Tweet”

We’re happy to announce that we just integrated with Twitter so you can post updates, links and videos straight to Twitter from FileRide. Tomorrow you will be able to set up your Twitter account in FileRide and start tweeting!

We have also tweaked the FileRide interface a little to make it more intuitive to use. In the next few days we will open up IPhone access to FileRide so that you can stay updated and meet new people wherever you may be.

For those who require the use of HTTP proxy, this is now supported in the client by clicking Proxy settings on the Tools menu.

We are still working on the Mac version and a lot of other cool features, coming up shortly!

Meet Lisa. Like most people Lisa has interests! For example, she reads a lot of tech blogs and magazines like Wired. She likes to watch crazy cats on YouTube, has a lot of Picasso pictures, loves 80s synth pop like Devo, and she's currently studying game theory! She is a member of many forums and communities but rarely visits them because they're just too general. One day, a friend introduced her to FileRide - a new type of social network, connecting like-minded people though their files and links. At first, she was skeptical. A program that's scanning files and sending information over the internet seemed kind of scary. But after reading more about FileRide she felt comfortable and decided to try it out! ... By adding her files and links to FileRide, Lisa could start meeting like-minded people without the effort of searching for them. If you're in the mood to meet like-minded people. Maybe you should try it too? Just add your interests. We'll add friends.

Since the beta launch, FileRide has been growing steadily. We have been enjoying a large amount of positive user feedback. Also, a number of blogs have been praising the service! The first blog to mention us was Netzwertig quickly followed by ReadWriteWeb and a number of other blogs around the world. We would like to thank you all for your kind words!

The demand for a Mac client is huge and we are working hard to get it out there! Please be patient! In the meantime you can try the FileRide mobile and FileRide web which are due to be released within the next two weeks.

Three days remain until we close FileRide to invited people only. We hope that you will take this opportunity to try the new way of social networking! If you feel anxious about installing FileRide, we understand. It’s a desktop program. It has access to your files. It’s sending information to the internet. But we want to assure you that we only access the files you choose to add yourself. We don’t send any sensitive information like the names or the content of your files from your computer. There is no way for people to access your files or any other information on your computer from the outside. Also no files are associated with you as a person, they are simply linked to an anonymous id that we assign to your installation of FileRide. The FileRide installation is also very clean as we don’t put any information in the Windows registry or pollute your Windows installation in any way at all. If you don’t like it, simply uninstall it and pretend it never happened. However, we think you’ll love it.
