STOCKHOLM - 30 October 2008 -

STOCKHOLM – 30 October 2008

Today the FileRide platform is launched – a revolutionary social internet service which, for the first time ever, connects people having the same files, links and documents on their own computers.

FileRide is a software application available for free at www.fileride.com. Through patent-pending technology, the program opens up a new form of social infrastructure of the Internet, a multidimensional tapestry of interests and people that makes it fun and easy to make relevant new connections. Each link, video, image and file you add to FileRide opens the door to a unique club in which all interested owners of that item can meet. The user’s social networks grow automatically and dramatically through people sharing many varied niche interests.

The service can be seen as a complement to communities like Facebook® and LinkedIn® which are mainly built around preexisting relationships among friends, colleagues and family. In contrast to these services, FileRide lets you connect with people sharing your specific interests. You don’t need to create, join or search through forums and groups looking for like-minded people; instead you are able to connect and develop relevant relationships automatically through the media that you own and that attracts you.

You instantly see which of your interests are shared by others, for example, if someone else has a song, a link or a PDF document that you have. You can easily enter a chat room, available only to those having that item. You can start discussions and share links on the item’s forum. This keeps you updated about your niche interests. Security is high – no one can tell what media you add to FileRide and no document contents or names are exposed outside the realm of your own computer.

“FileRide unites people through the niche interests they have in common. Based on the files, links and media that a user adds to FileRide, the service generates relevant contact surfaces. To our knowledge, there is no other service like this out there, you simply have to try it!” says Patrik Hedmalm, founder of FileRide.

Apart from the social aspects, FileRide gathers and presents a great deal of information and media related to the user’s current interest. For example, looking at a photo tagged “Bob Dylan” would automatically let you read more about the artist Bob Dylan from Wikipedia®, discover relevant blog articles from Google® and other sources, watch related videos from YouTube®, and listen to Last.fm internet radio playing similar music. Everything is presented in a neat and accessible way without the need to manually search. The number of informational sources available for these so-called mash-ups will increase with the growth of the FileRide platform, and already leads you to discover a lot of connections you probably wouldn’t have found on your own.

FileRide creates new opportunities in many diverse areas. Teenagers can build completely new social circles through the music and culture they consume, students and researchers can meet through Word® files or PDF documents, and companies can meet their customers directly through the software and media they create. Many other centers of interest such as books, products and companies on the stock exchange are being integrated into FileRide. Currently the service operates on Windows XP® and Windows Vista® while upcoming versions for Mac OS® and mobile platforms are in the works. At this point, the service is open exclusively to invited guests. To receive an invitation as soon as possible, just register at www.fileride.com
